Louisiana Tech basketball adds Georgia Tech transfer

Thursday, May 2, 2024

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball program added to its backcourt depth with the signing of Amaree Abram, head coach Talvin Hester announced.

Abram, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard from Port Arthur, Texas, comes to Ruston having made stops at Georgia Tech and Ole Miss.

“Amaree is a versatile guard that is elite at making plays for himself and teammates,” Hester said. “His ability to breakdown defenses on offense and lock up guards on the defensive end is what we were looking to add to our team. He is a great addition to our program, and I look forward to his arrival in Ruston.”

This past season as a sophomore, Abram started the first four games for the Yellow Jackets while averaging 4.7 points and 1.5 assists per game during that stretch. He saw limited action the rest of the season, playing in four ACC games including a 5-point effort in 11 minutes against Wake Forest.

Abram transferred to Georgia Tech from Ole Miss where he was a mainstay in the lineup as a freshman, seeing action in all 33 games while making 22 starts. He averaged 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists per game for the Rebels, ranking fourth on the team in scoring and second in assists.

He finished second on the team with 39 made three-pointers, shooting a team-high 36.4% from deep. In the opening-round game versus Stanford at the ESPN Invitational, he scored a season-high 26 points and was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week after averaging 20.7 points during the three games at the event.

Abram was a four-star point guard and was rated as the No. 98 overall player in ESPN 100’s rankings coming out of high school. He was also ranked as the No. 20 point guard in the nation and No. 11 player from the state of Texas in the ESPN 100.

His senior season of high school was spent at Southern California Academy where he averaged 16 points and seven assists and was a nominee for the West Region for the 2022 Mc-Donald’s All-American Game.
