Bulldogs batter Charlotte, 13-3

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Facing elimination in the 2016 Conference USA Championship, Louisiana Tech quickly put an end to any doubts when the Bulldogs put up double-digit numbers for the second day in a row thanks to a season-high 18 hits to run-rule Charlotte, 13-3, in a shortened eight-inning contest Thursday morning at Pete Taylor Park.
The Bulldogs avoided elimination with the win and will advance to face Florida Atlantic, which fell to Rice Thursday night, at 3 p.m. today at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg.
Charlotte became the first team eliminated from this year’s tournament.

Tech’s Adams advances to NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Louisiana Tech senior Mia Adams punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships in the long jump as action began Thursday at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville.
Adams top mark was set on her second of three attempts but her advancing spot was far from secure at that point.

Garr to be keynote speaker at GSU Gala

Former Grambling State University baseball standout Ralph Garr, who went on to win a National League batting championship, will be the keynote speaker as the Ruston chapter of the Grambling University National Alumni Association holds its fifth annual Scholarship Gala.
The gala, themed “Sowing Seeds for Scholars,” will honor leadership donors and scholarship recipients, will be held at 7 p.m. June 4 in the Black and Gold Room of the Favrot Student Center on the GSU campus.
