Leroy Dykes

A memorial service for Mr. Leroy Dykes, age 69, of Wichita, KS was held with family members present at Central Avenue Funeral Home in Wichita, KS.

Mr. Dykes was born August 29, 1946 to Artis Lee Dykes and Mattie Lou Jenkins Mitchell. He died August 24, 2016 in Wichita, KS. Mr. Dykes attended Lincoln Elementary School, Fellowship School and graduated from Grambling High School.
He was affectionately known by family and friends as Boley. All who know him will forever remember his hearty laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Christine Dykes.

Debbie Silmon

Debbie Hutson Silmon of Farmerville, LA passed peacefully in the arms of her Heavenly Father on Monday evening, August 29, 2016 following a lengthy illness.

Debbie had a heart of gold and a wide circle of family and friends to whom she was devoted. She will be dearly missed by so many people.

She was born in El Dorado, AR to Frank and Catherine Hutson and later was raised in the Farmerville area.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Hutson and grandparents, Lois & John Clinton Digby and Thelma & Fred Hutson.

Jerome Bush

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and teacher, Jerome Franklin Bush, 64, of Quitman, Louisiana, died Friday, August 26, 2016, at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. A celebration of his life and scattering of ashes will be held at the beach in Biloxi the weekend of September 17, 2016.

Jerome was born March 22, 1952, in Kerrville, Texas, to Ellus Franklin Bush and Mary Ida Shirley Bush Maxwell.

Non-conforming use request wins OK

Dealership seeking to sell buildings, deer stands

Ruston’s Board of Adjustments has approved a new non-conforming use request that will allow a local used car dealership to also sell portable buildings, deer stands and duck blinds.
But the final site plan for C&P Autos, located at 201 East Georgia Ave., must meet requirements set forth Wednesday by the board. Zoning Administrator Jim Hays also has to sign off on the finished plan.

RCT hosts 26th annual RustTony Awards

Dozens of residents gathered at the Dixie Center for the Arts Tuesday evening as the Ruston Community Theatre hosted the 26th annual RusTony Awards.
Crew members and actors alike chatted excitedly about who would take home the top awards as Steele Moegle, president of RCT, announced the beginning of the ceremony.
She began with a roll call of the productions the RCT had put on in the last year, thanking the actors in each performance.
Then the awards were given, including:
• Best Production Stage Manager — Jane Wallace in “The Diary of Anne Frank”

Two educators selected to review science standards

in

Two Lincoln Parish educators were selected to be a part of the a six-month review process for the state’s academic content standards in science.
Cathi Cox-Boniol, Lincoln Parish ACHIEVE Coordinator, and Shavonne Garner-Price, Lincoln Parish Title 1 Facilitator and president of the Louisiana Science Teachers Association, will help be a part of committees that will review the state standards and bring recommendations to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
