In Memory Kendall Paul Cahill
Mr. Kendall Paul Cahill was born on January 4, 1925 and passed away on May 23, 2016. Mr. Cahill was a vet of WWII participating in eight of the nine campaigns in the Pacific assigned to USS J. Franklin Bell. Ken had multiple citations and medals associated with action seen in the Pacific. He was past President of PABCO, a member of Rotary Club of Ruston, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston.

Bulldogs head to NCAA Regionals

Hometown heroes come in many forms.
Memorial Day was celebrated on Monday, and in recent weeks a Ruston man went to great lengths to honor a local veteran — Cpl. Calvin Bowden.
Cassidy Bryan said the real story isn’t that a piece of history was found, but that Cpl. Bowden’s life is one that Ruston can be proud of.

Third shooting suspect arrested

in

Another suspect in the April shooting outside Legends Nightclub in Grambling has been arrested.
Claude Steveland Hyde, 33, of 9915 Maplewood St., Bellflower, California, was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on May 26.
Hyde was located in California and transported back to Lincoln Parish on a second-degree murder charge.
Lincoln Parish Sheriff Office Public Information Office Maj. Chad Alexander said more arrests could be forthcoming if detectives’ investigations reveal there were more people involved in the shooting.

Burt’s closes after 50-plus years

Open since 1965, Burt’s Automotive closed its doors Thursday.
Bill Burt, owner, said the station, located on Cooktown Road, has been in his family since it first opened its doors more than 50 years ago.
“My dad opened it up in 1965, and it was a Gulf Station, then Chevron bought out Gulf,” he said. “We stayed Chevron until about four or five years ago when we stopped handling gas altogether and went to straight mechanic work.”
His father, Robert Burt, was offered the station when Interstate 20 near Ruston was completed.

LSMSA seniors receive excellence awards

Members of the Class of 2016 at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts were recognized with excellence awards during the 32nd annual senior recognition program held May 20, in the A.A. Fredericks auditorium located on the campus of Northwestern State University.

Lady Chops to perform at library
