Sunday Movie Review: ‘The Angry Birds Movie’

As a rule, movies based on video games are always terrible. There isn’t a single one that could be considered a critical darling. “Wreck-it Ralph” doesn’t count; it technically made up its derivative main characters. “The Angry Birds Movie” tries to buck this trend by being based on game with a non-traditional format (a phone app as opposed to an arcade or console game) and by featuring some impressive animation and decent voice work. It succeeds — in a way.

Tech marks history society’s 50th anniversary with new member induction

As spring quarter comes to an end, Louisiana Tech University’s department of history has something special to celebrate.
May 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment on campus of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society. Chartered on May 21, 1966, Tech’s Lambda-Rho Chapter has risen to national prominence, winning best chapter honors in its division 30 times in the last 35 years.

Peach Festival Donation Quilt 2016

The Piney Hills Quilt Guild Donation Quilt 2016, is finished and tickets are on sale. Tickets are available from any Guild member and at local quilt shops — Hannah's, Quilteroo's and The Fabric Shop. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Moines raised from the ticket sales send a child to MedCamps, and is donated to Life Choices, DART and Camp Harris. The drawing will be held June 25 at the Peach Festival. Ticket holders do not have to be present to win. The quilt "Picnic in the Orchard" was appraised at the National Quilt Show in Paducah, Kentucky, in April for $1,715.
