Tech golfers No. 10

HENDERSON, Nev. — Victor Lange shot a 2-under-par 70 and Louisiana Tech finished the first round of play at No. 10 with a 17-over 305 total on the team scoreboard as the 2013 Western Athletic Conference golf championship began on Monday.
Lange’s 70 led the Bulldogs as he shot an unblemished three birdies with no bogeys on the back nine, including a birdie on the 18th hole. He finished the day tied for second overall on the individual leaderboard.

Springtime is a time that reminds people of birth and babies.
That means its time for Ruston’s annual March of Dimes March for Babies, which will be held Saturday at the Lambright Intramural Center on the Louisiana Tech University campus.
Registration will start at 8 a.m. while the actual 3.5-mile walk is set to begin at 10 a.m.

Man caught after chase

Suspect arrested after wrecking on Tech campus

Deputies with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after a brief chase ended with the suspect wrecking his vehicle on the campus of Louisiana Tech University at approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 25.
According to reports, a deputy with the LPSO initiated a traffic stop on a pick-up truck driven by Paul Anthony Cox, 38, of 181 Ember Road of Eros.
During the course of attempting to pull Cox’s vehicle over, the deputy turned on his emergency lights and Cox attempted to flee by accelerating his vehicle and making a right turn on Monroe Street traveling north.

First lady of area football to celebrate birthday

The first lady of northern Louisiana football will be honored Thursday as The Friends of the Eddie Robinson Museum will hold a birthday party for the late legend’s wife Doris.
Doris Robinson’s birthday party will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Eddie Robinson Museum.
Eddie and Doris began their courtship in Baton Rouge when they were both 13 and in the seventh grade. That relationship continued through their high school years, even after Doris’s parents sent her to a boarding school 124 miles away in an attempt to break them up.

Locals participate in Warrior Dash

A running group from Ruston ran the Warrior Dash in Jackson, Miss., on April 20. Warrior Dash is a 5K race held on demanding and unique terrain all over the country. After completing the race participants were treated with music and food.

NCLAC, Dixie present student art from Claiborne Parish

The Dixie Center for the Arts is once again a gallery space for the North Central Louisiana Arts Council’s art exhibitions.
From now through May 13, the lobby exhibition boasts artwork created by Rhonda Porter’s art students in Claiborne Parish.
Full of variety, pieces in this show include pointillism self-portraits, block printing, torn paper collage, large abstracted trees and investigative self-portraits.

Chorus to host ‘happy hour’

Piney Hills Harmony Chorus of Sweet Adelines will offer two "Harmony Happy Hour" guest nights at 6 p.m. Thursday and May 9, in the fellowship hall of the Presbyterian Church of Ruston.
Director Sheila Nugent said the guest nights are the perfect time for area women to see what the chorus is so excited to share: "Come visit, and let us introduce you to the wonderful world of four-part harmony a cappella music, barbershop style."
