Techsters’ Jones honored in WAC

DENVER, Colo. — Louisiana Tech University’s Michelle Jones has won Pitcher of the Week honors in the Western Athletic Conference after hurling a no-hitter during action for the Lady Techsters last Sunday.
Jones, a senior from Scurry, Texas, went 2-1 with a 1.75 ERA and 19 strikeouts during the past week to receive the honor. She held opponents to a .155 batting average while leading the Lady Techsters to a 4-1 record at the Cowgirl Classic held in Lake Charles last weekend.

Move up those Bulldogs from Louisiana Tech University for another week in the national polls.
Riding along with one of the country’s top winning streak, the Western Athletic Conference-leading team moved into the Top 30 for the Associated Press poll announced Monday afternoon.

Lincoln Parish represented in hoops’ playoff

If it’s nearing the end of February, it must mean Lincoln Parish has several contributions in the annual Louisiana High School Athletic Association state basketball playoffs.
And sure enough, our area is well represented again to advance in postseason competition and maybe even reach the championship rounds that are going to be staged within a long 3-point field goal of Ruston (at Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, March 6-9).

Passing on your worldview

Someone recently told me she wanted her children to “think for themselves.” Not me, I said. If I was still in my active parenting years, I would most definitely want my children to think like I do. That would be, in fact, my primary purpose. I would want them to accept that my values are the right values to hold and I’d want them to eventually make every effort to pass those values on to their children. But then, I don’t subscribe to the postmodern notion that all values are equal. I’m not a relativist.

The new face of assessments

I remember the excitement that was computer lab day in elementary school. We’d line up — behind the designated line leader for the day — and head over to the room filled with early generation Apple computers. Games such as Oregon Trail, which seemed much like an interactive story with graphics that resembled the early Mario Brothers games, made the week that much more exciting.

The Bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Dorothy Whitecotton and the late Harry Whitecotton, of Shreveport, and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Mire, of Lake Charles.

Judge and Mrs. Glenn Fallin, of Arcadia, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Ashley Elizabeth Fallin, to Timothy Ryan Deering, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Deering, of San Diego, Calif.

Ashley is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Gene Goodwin, of Haynesville, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Jackson Fallin, of Shreveport.
Tim is the grandson of Mrs. Georgina Kinder, of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Fely Brunk, of San Diego.
