Man booked on drug charge

A Baton Rouge man was arrested after allegedly trying to use a fraudulent prescription at a local pharmacy.
According to the arrest affidavit, Thomas Paul Harleaux, 58, of Baton Rouge, was attempting to get a prescription of Roxicodone, more commonly known as oxycodone, filled at the Walgreens on West California Avenue.
Capt. Tim Parker, spokesman for the Ruston Police Department, said the pharmacy contacted the issuing doctor and reportedly found the prescription to be fraudulent.

Dickson has volunteered 50 years with LPSO

Joseph W. “Joe” Dickson, who was recently made an emeritus member of the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office Reserve and the Sheriff’s Citizens Observer Patrol, has spent most of his spare time for the past 50 years watching over the residents of Lincoln Parish.
From working at big events, such as the Louisiana Peach Festival, to patrolling traffic, Dickson has enjoyed every moment of his service.
“I just enjoy doing what I do,” Dickson said. “And, my wife supports me 100 percent.”
Before beginning his volunteerism, Dickson served in the United States Air Force.

GSU Tiger Band marching all over

After Washington D.C., group visits Dallas, Alexandria

Members of the Grambling State University World Famed Tiger Marching Band performed twice this past weekend, once in Dallas and another time in Alexandria.
On Saturday, 55 band members performed a seven-minute halftime show at the Dallas Mavericks professional basketball game. The Mavericks played the Golden State Warriors at the American Airlines Center in Dallas at 7:30 p.m.
“Feels like the band may need to move to Dallas,” said Larry Pannell, director of bands.

Trees in their native, undisturbed habitat are supplied with nutrients yearly by the decomposition of organic matter which has covered the forest floor.  In landscape situations, the natural accumulation of fallen leaves and limbs are usually removed and soil conditions are disturbed and imbalanced. Periodic supplemental fertilization is necessary to keep tree healthy, yearly fertilization is not recommended. Trees should be fertilized when:
•  Leaves are abnormal in size, shape and color
