Best honoree a humanitarian for life

The dictionary defines a humanitarian as someone having concern for, or helping to improve the welfare and happiness of people.
Jim Tuten, winner of the Ruston Rotary Club’s 2012 Bill Best Humanitarian Award, fits that definition perfectly. Throughout his adult life, Tuten has been serving the people of Ruston and Lincoln Parish and beyond — and not just via his job as a law enforcement officer.

Trying a shot of wheatgrass

Of course, realizing that vanity and healthy habits go hand in hand, I’m constantly in search of a vitamin or supplement to ingest that will give me glowing skin, shiny hair and a nonexistent waistline.
I’m not a believer in fad diets or a magic pill, but I am a believer in that God gave us everything here on this earth that we need to replenish our bodies and prolong the aging process, including but not limited to doctors, hairstylists, estheticians and LED lights — God bless them.

Don’t pencil in Scott Stoker just yet as the new defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech University.
While the former Northwestern State University Head Coach is regarded as the No. 1 candidate for the job, nothing is official yet and reportedly negotiations are continuing with his hiring.
Dollar marks might be the only thing serving as an obstacle to a finalization of a deal, as the 44-year-old Alexandria native is reportedly making good money as the defensive coordinator at Sam Houston State, which is one of the top NCAA Football Championship Series programs in the nation.

Ruston resident Mallory Hilton accumulated only five weeks of memories of her 4-year-old son, Mason, before the images of St. Jude Hospital began to be intermingled with them. But Hilton is extremely glad that those images of St. Jude exist.
Mason returned Dec. 20 from his latest checkup at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and “everything was good,” Hilton reports. “We’ll go back next December, and if everything is fine, they’ll transfer him to after-treatment care.”
