Boys don't want to be 'equal'

in
Rosemond, John.jpg

Q: Our two sons are in the fifth and sixth grades at a private school that just held a father-daughter dance. Now the school has announced that it’s putting on a mother-son dance so as not to leave out the boys. I really don’t want to attend this. It’s just not my thing. Time for 4-H camp

in
Simmons, Amanda.jpg

I know, I know, you’re thinking: “But it’s not summer yet!” Well, that is true, but registration for 4-H summer camp will begin Feb. 18.
Because 4-H Summer Camp is one of the most important events that 4-H offers for youth, planning has to start early. Camping is one of the most valuable experiences a child can have. It’s a learning experience that helps boys and girls appreciate the outdoors, live together as a group, get along with others and appreciate people with different interests and backgrounds. Many fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade boys and girls participate in 4-H Summer Camp. The camp is held at the LSU AgCenter’s Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, an 80-acre campsite located near Pollock, on Highway 8 about 15 miles northeast of Alexandria.

Ex-Grambling State star retires after 44 years as player/coach
012713 JOINER STRETCH C.jpg

Because of his well-known humility, Charlie Joiner is oftentimes regarded by the media as a “tough” interview.

Given what he’s achieved as a player and coach for nearly 50 years, Joiner has plenty of others — fellow coaches and teammates, fans and media — who are more than happy to be assigned that task.
