Hart, Chandler to unite in matrimony

Mrs. Stacie Hart, of Farmerville, is pleased to announce the engagement of her daughter, Keri Nicole Hart, to Cody Ryan Chandler, son of Mark and Debbie Chandler, of Choudrant.

The bride-elect is the also the daughter of the late Ken Hart and the granddaughter of Zoe Hart and the late John Hart, the late Dr. W.O. and Mary Roberts, all of Farmerville. The groom is the grandson of Gene and Juanita Posey, of Choudrant, and Waylon Chandler and the late Jewel Theisen.

James, Watters to exchange vows in May

Karen Golden James, of Ruston, and Donald Ray James, of Mobile, Ala., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kristen Nicole James, to David Larche Watters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larche Watters, of Benton.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Carlton Golden Sr., of Shreveport, Ms. Lonnette Golden, of Saline, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Gentry James, of Arcadia.
The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grant Watters, of Bastrop, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Ray.

Tech prepares for national race

It’s not unusual to drive past Bogard Hall on Louisiana Tech University’s campus late at night or on the weekend and see students running around working inside.
Many of those students are spending every spare moment they have to build a car. But, the car isn’t one that they’ll be using to cruise the streets of Ruston. Instead, they plan on taking a drive in Houston during the 2013 Shell Eco-marathon set for April 4-7.The contest is designed to encourage more fuel-efficient car designs.

Jurors look to future

Appointments approved, first steps taken for block grant

The Lincoln Parish Police Jury confirmed five appointments and passed resolutions to complete a System Survey and Compliance Questionnaire and to lay groundwork to apply for 2014-15 Louisiana Development Block Grant funding during Tuesday’s monthly meeting at the Lincoln Parish Courthouse.

Committees set to change

The Lincoln Parish Police Jury will be making some committee changes after concerns were raised following Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
After that meeting adjourned, juror Theresa Wyatt held a meeting with a majority of jurors remaining to listen, to voice her concerns about what she felt were imbalances on key LPPJ committees based on race, gender and municipality.
LPPJ President Skip Russell did not stay for that meeting but said that he understands the concerns and that the problem is being worked on.

February has gone, but the art classes at AJB sent it out with a bang. Students created beautiful hearts of various colors and sizes. Visitors to the school complimented the students’ artwork displayed throughout the school. March is here, and AJB is looking wonderfully green. All artwork will be centered on “Celebrating March.”

Tech announces winter quarter graduates

Louisiana Tech University’s winter quarter commencement exercises were held March 3, with diplomas awarded to 296 graduates. Area graduates are:
Arcadia: David Michael Adams, bachelor of science
Barksdale Air Force Base: Derek Anthony McLemore, bachelor of general studies
Bernice: Kelsey Ann Burleson, bachelor of arts
Calhoun: Victoria N. Hodge, bachelor of arts; James Cassidy Riley, associate of science nursing

Time to support Red Cross

March is not only Women’s History Month, it’s also Red Cross Month.
The Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross includes 10 parishes: Caddo, Bossier, Bienville, Lincoln, Natchitoches, DeSoto, Red River, Sabine, Webster and Claiborne.
According to the American Red Cross, President Franklin D. Roosevelt first proclaimed March as Red Cross Month 70 years ago. Since 1943, every president, including President Barack Obama, has designated March as Red Cross Month. The Red Cross is synonymous with helping people, and has been doing so for more than 130 years.
