Hipp home run helps halt Rebels

Garrett Hipp, a junior on Ruston High School’s baseball team, is coming off of a big performance in the Bearcats’ recent District 2-5A series against West Monroe High. Hipp drove in six runs with a home run and two singles in a 12-11 win over the Rebels. He’ll be helping the Bearcats (21-5, 5-1) play host to district foe Natchitoches Central High tonight starting at 5 p.m. Ruston has won nine of its last 10 games.

RHS: ‘Home of the Javelin’

Ruston High School’s tradition as “the home for javelin throwers” is continuing.
The program that has featured such national-class performers as Patrick Ramsey, Bert Jones, Anna Lyons and Josh Joerg through the years dominated the event at two recent meets.
At the Meet of Champions held in Mobile, Ala., the Lady Bearcats came away with two of the top three finishers in the girls’ division in champion Kristen Clark (129-4.5) and third-place representative Ali Brasuell (127-2.25).

Bulldogs’ grid ticket prices, promotions set for 2013 season

Louisiana Tech University has announced its season ticket prices and home game promotions for the 2013 football season.
Season ticket prices largely remain unchanged with packages as low as $90 for five home games. The team’s game against Army at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas is not part of the 2013 season ticket plan.

Cougars blank Rayville

Grant Clary had the strike zone clamped down and his teammates supported him with timely hitting to help provide for a 6-0 victory by Cedar Creek High’s baseball team against Rayville High earlier this week.
Clary went the full seven innings and allowed four hits while striking out six batters.
Wes Gresham had two singles to pace the Cougars’ offense that also included the contributions of Mark Van (single, RBI), Jacob Brown (single, two runs), Austin McNeill (sacrifice bunt), Aaron Hunt (single, run), Brian Chicola (single, RBI, run) and Justin Calhoun (RBI, sacrifice bunt).

VILLAGE OF CHOUDRANT March 4, 2013
The Village of Choudrant Town Council met in regular session. Present were Mayor Bill Sanderson, Alderman Ragan Aswell, Alderman Ricky Maier, Alderman Brandon Williams and guests. Meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by Mayor Sanderson. Mayor Sanderson gave prayer. Motion to approve the agenda was made Alderman Williams, seconded by Alderman Maier. Approved. Motion to approve the minutes of February 4, 2013, was made by Alderman Williams, seconded by Alderman Maier. Approved.

Reading Raffle Prizes: Annual event celebrates literacy at Cypress Springs

Cypress Springs students Tasnia Bari and Levi Minyard really like to read. So, it seems fitting that the pair walked away with approximately $100 worth of books each last week as a result of the Reading Raffle program at their school.
This Reading Raffle program is a joint project between the Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana (A+PEL) student chapter at Louisiana Tech University and Lincoln ACHIEVE.
Julie Holmes, Tech professor and faculty advisor for A+PEL, said the celebration is held each year at the end of the program.

Running on green power

For the second year in a row, a team of students from Louisiana Tech University has won first place for diesel fuel efficiency in the Urban Concept class of the 2013 Shell Eco-marathon Americas, held this past weekend in Houston.
Louisiana Tech’s vehicle, “Hot Rod,” defended its 2012 title by achieving 316 miles per gallon, besting the second place team by more than 70 mpg. The team’s newest vehicle, “Tech Double X,” had a successful debut, coming in fourth place in gasoline fuel efficiency in the Urban Concept class with 355 mpg.
