Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Sanders, age 87 of Ruston, will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 8, 2013at Mount Moriah Methodist Church near Arcadia with Pastor Ricky Bonnett officiating. 

Burial will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Elsie Sanders went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2013.

Dr. Rick Byargeon

Funeral services for Dr. Rick Byargeon will be held at 2:00 PM Monday April 8, 2013 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Dr. Mack Roark, Rev. Clint Pressley, Dr. Eddie Wren and Dr. Steve Horn. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Funeral services for Thomas R. Odom 80, of Farmerville, LA., will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 8, 2013 in the Chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville, LA. Officiating will be Reverend Richard Shreve and Bobby Franklin assisting. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, LA under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville.

Ruby Harris Young

Ruby Harris Young, 92 years old of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at North Oaks Medical Center. She was born November 22, 1920, in Dubach, Louisiana. Mrs.

Young was a faithful member of Woodland Park Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School class for 54 years. She was retired from the Tangipahoa Parish School System and was a member of the Tangipahoa Parish Retired Teachers Association.

Police chase rolls across parish

Kinder man facing multiple charges

Law enforcement officials kept a police chase across Lincoln Parish from getting out of hand Friday, although three Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office vehicles were damaged in the process.
Facing multiple charges is Jason Earl Brown, 37, of 834 Spears Road in Kinder.
Ruston Police Department Captain Tim Parker said the incident began midday Friday at the Sonic Drive-In on Louisiana Highway 33.

Byargeon remembered

Ruston mourning loss of Temple Baptist pastor

Ruston has lost one of its leading religious lights as Temple Baptist Church Pastor Rick Byargeon passed away Thursday at the age of 55 after a battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. tonight at Temple Baptist Church with funeral services set for 2 p.m. Monday at the church with interment to follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery.
He is being remembered both as a fun-loving, humorous man but also as one of the top Bible scholars and teachers anywhere.

Russ Town Society’s Downtown Delights set for Friday

Area residents can sample a variety of specialties from local eateries while at the same time supporting two nonprofit groups.
On Friday, the Russ Town Society, a group devoted to raising money for the cultural and historical preservation of Ruston, will present its annual Downtown Delights at the Lincoln Parish Library Events Center.

Help make students’ testing week successful

Lincoln Parish’s students will be put to the test again on Monday as they sit down, pencil in hands, to take their high-stakes standardized tests.
These tests make up a large part of the accountability scores, which last year left two Lincoln Parish Schools –— Ruston and Choudrant High Schools — with a letter grade of an A. These positive scores make Lincoln Parish an attractive place for new businesses and families to relocate, improving the lives of all Lincoln Parish residents.

So long, Dubach High School

Though the flowers that bloom in springtime/Wither soon and die/All the flowers of our youth time live on in Dubach High/Sing her praises speed them onward/To the world we will proclaim/How we’ll always shield and cherish/Dear ol’ Dubach High School’s name.
I remember how, as little kids, we would sing that song — our school’s alma mater — at almost every assembly.  It conjured up wonderful images of blooming tulips, lilies, buttercups, azaleas and the dogwoods of spring gilded with oaths of lifetime devotion.
