Prep teams hot on diamond

Lincoln Parish sports fans can practically count on it every year at this time: there will be several local teams qualifying for the annual Louisiana High School Athletic Association baseball playoffs.
And sure enough, that’s the case again this year. Three schools in three different classifications still have their 2013 seasons intact and hope to do so after today.
That’s when Ruston High School, Cedar Creek High and Choudrant High will all be on their own fields to host playoff games.

How to acquire patience?

Degrie, Elizabeth (New).jpg

Though the nugget of wisdom may not come until a long time down the road, I believe that each experience in life teaches us something about either life in general or ourselves.
I mentioned recently that my husband is currently on the job hunt, since his looming graduation date will boot him out of the graduate assistantship position that has served as a portion of our monthly income for the past couple of years.

No telling how excited Ray Holley would’ve been had he been selected in the seven rounds of the recent National Football League draft.
He would’ve likely set up a celebration party on the streets of his hometown of Orange, Calif.
As it is, though, he’ll gladly accept a free agent route into the professional ranks.
Nothing wrong with that, to be sure.

Nine-game winning streak, 17 wins in the past 18 games, 29-5 overall record.
Nice numbers, for sure, but they’re all in the past for Ruston High School’s baseball team starting today.
It’s an entirely “new” season for the Bearcats, the 2-5A district champs who will open postseason play at home with a 5 p.m. contest against Slidell Northshore High (13-17).
The fourth-seeded ’Cats will be trying to advance to a regional round matchup against the winner out of No. 13-seeded Sulphur and No. 20-seeded Ponchatoula.

HENDERSON, Nev. — Victor Lange shot a 2-under-par 70 and Louisiana Tech finished the first round of play at No. 10 with a 17-over 305 total on the team scoreboard as the 2013 Western Athletic Conference golf championship began on Monday.
Lange’s 70 led the Bulldogs as he shot an unblemished three birdies with no bogeys on the back nine, including a birdie on the 18th hole. He finished the day tied for second overall on the individual leaderboard.
