Simsboro loses to Downsville, 15-2

in

Simsboro High (7-20) had its 2013 baseball season come to an end on Thursday afternoon with a 15-2 bi-district Class B Louisiana High School Athletic Association round loss at Downsville High (23-4).
Cedar Creek (20-9) hosts Ascension Catholic (15-15) at 5 p.m. in Class 1A and Choudrant (20-9) hosts Avoyelles Charter (6-16) at 5:30 p.m. in Class B in bi-district round games involving Lincoln Parish teams today.

Bearcats win over Byrd, 3-2

Ruston High put the finishing touches to their regular season schedule on Thursday night with a 3-2 home victory over Shreveport Byrd High.
The Bearcats are now one win shy of 30, as they will take a 29-5 record into the Class 5A Louisiana High School Athletic Association playoffs that will begin next week.
For the second straight game, BJ Findley unloaded a home run for the Bearcats’ offense that also featured an RBI from Garrett Hipp, a double from Ivan Wilson, Jr., and a single each from David Michael Burkhalter, Cannon Brasuell and Sam Phillips.

Tech reaches WAC tennis semifinals

DENVER, Colo. — Louisiana Tech University used the doubles point and three straight set wins in singles to shut out the No. 6 seed Texas State, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the WAC Tournament at the Gates Tennis Center.
The No. 3-seeded Techsters (15-4) advanced to today’s semifinals, where they will take on the No. 2 seed San Jose Spartans, who is also ranked No. 66 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.

Woods doubles up with wins for RHS

Travis Woods doubled up for championship performances at the recent District 2-5A track and field meet.
Woods won both the boys’ 100-meter dash (11.08) and 200-m dash (22.42) to help pace the Bearcats to a title-winning total of 109 points.
Ruston High’s girls also captured their division with 131.5 points. Overall, Head Coach Jimmy Williams’ squads totaled 15 first places, including nine in the girls’ division.
