Impounded vehicle search leads to arrest

The Grambling Police Department arrested a Baton Rouge woman Monday after towing her vehicle and a subsequent search revealing 65 small bags of suspected marijuana and a bottle containing 47 pills of suspected Xanax.

Budget cuts to security?

Proposal could affect Lincoln Parish’s OHSEP

Parish officials have started moving to hopefully avoid what could become a massive cut to Lincoln Parish’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
Governor Bobby Jindal’s proposed executive budget for the upcoming year significantly cuts funding to emergency management offices throughout much of the state. Lincoln Parish received $44,362 in EMPG (Emergency Management Performance Grant) funding for 2012, but the proposed budget reduces that to $14,212 for 2013.

Wreck closes overpass

Eastbound traffic on Interstate 20 was stalled momentarily this morning due to an 18-wheeler crashing into an overpass.
Maj. Stephen Williams, spokesman for the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, said around 9:30 a.m. that an 18-wheeler carrying an oversize load struck the bottom of the Walnut Creek overpass as it was passing under it.
Williams said it appeared that one of the main beams supporting the bridge was damaged. Also, a portion of the truck’s load was knocked off the truck.

Five arrested in fireworks burglary

Three adults and two juveniles were arrested this week in connection with the December burglary of a local fireworks stand.
Maj. Stephen Williams, spokesman for the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, said in December a burglary was reported at one of the fireworks stands on UPS Road, off of Louisiana Highway 33. Several boxes of fireworks and two cash registers were reported stolen.
Williams said after a long investigation, LPSO investigators, in conjunction with Union Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators, were led to three adults and two juveniles.
