Students focus on letters, Louisiana life

February was a fabulous month at Emmanuel Baptist Preschool. Ms. Deby, Ms. Monica, Ms. Brooksie and Ms. Amanda’s classes just finished learning all the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make.
Ms. Deby’s 4-year-old class is now reviewing and practicing writing the letters. This week our 4-year-olds worked on P, Q, R, S and T, and they are beginning to sound out three letter words and recognize many sight words.

MONROE — One statistic caught Lance Waldron’s eye when he scanned over the final box score of the 2013 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class B boys’ box score late Wednesday night.
“If you had told me last week that Jarell Martin would have 11 points, I would have said, ‘Hand over the trophy to us’,” said Waldron, head coach at Simsboro High.
Those 11 points were nearly 15 under the season average for Martin, a 6-9 forward who is arguably the best player in his classification and has signed with LSU.

Techsters host NMSU tonight

It’s all about seeding for Louisiana Tech University’s Lady Techsters as they close out their home schedule with two games starting tonight.
Set to play New Mexico State University (12-15, 5-11) tonight (7 p.m.) and University of Denver Saturday night (7 p.m.) at the Thomas Assembly Center, the Techsters (12-15, 8-8) are currently squeezed into a share of fourth place in the Western Athletic Conference standings with three other schools.
All of which means that these final two regular season challenges are all about seedings for the upcoming league postseason tournament.

’Dogs start big WAC road trip

Louisiana Tech University’s Bulldogs have travelled more than 15,000 miles and won in four time zones this season.
The No. 27 ranked team in the Associated Press poll and No. 28 for the USA Today rankings would like to continue that trend starting tonight with their final two road appearances of the regular season.
Tech (26-3, 16-0) will play at New Mexico State (19-10, 12-4) tonight (8 p.m., CDT) and at Denver on Saturday (6 p.m., CDT) in crucial Western Athletic Conference contests.

Cedar Creek softballers still perfect

Cedar Creek High’s softball team reached double digits in wins and remained unbeaten with a 5-2 victory over Benton Wednesday.
The Lady Cougars advanced their early season record to 10-0 after registering a 5-2 win for the second straight day. They had won by the same score against Monroe Ouachita Christian in a District 2-1A opener Tuesday.
Caley Pyles (8-0) was the winning pitcher and had six strikeouts along with getting two hits and driving in a run at the plate against Benton.
