Smith signs with ULL

The Smith family tradition will continue with the nationally-prominent University of Louisiana-Lafayette softball program. Tech ends volleyball campaign

The Louisiana Tech Lady University Techster volleyball team wrapped up its 2012 campaign, as the team fell in straight sets to the University of Texas-Arlington 25-15, 25-14, 25-21 earlier this week in College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

West Monroe native crowned Miss Tech

Julianne Tippen of West Monroe was crowned Miss Louisiana Tech 2013 at the annual pageant held on Nov. 7. She will represent the university at the 50th annual Miss Louisiana Pageant in June.
Along with the title, Tippen was awarded full tuition for three quarters provided by Tech as well as a wardrobe budget from Tech's Union Board.

Reception opens Bead Town Ruston exhibit

The mayor of Ruston, Dan Hollingsworth (left), placed the last bead onto the Ruston sign at the opening reception of Bead Town Ruston.
The sign, in the background, was created by the Sci Academy of East New Orleans in collaboration with artist Stephan Wanger and the staff of the Lincoln Parish Library in Ruston.
The full exhibit is currently open to the public at the Lincoln Parish Library through Dec. 16.

What is a peace pole?

Recently I was on the edge of a conversation when a peace pole was being discussed. I know about totem poles, fishing poles and telephone poles. One can participate in a Gallup poll and some children like to catch tadpoles, but what is a peace pole?
My curiosity aroused, I turned to the World Wide Web to find out. Several sites provided information including The Peace Pole Project, The Original Peace Pole Makers, Peace Foundation and of course, Wikipedia.
