Oh, that second consecutive berth in a bowl game is, of course, history.

Allen among Tech WAC leaders

Ryan Allen has plenty of “No. 1 company” for Louisiana Tech University in the final Western Athletic Conference statistical report.
He is one of five different Bulldogs who placed No. 1 in their skill areas for the 2012 season.
Allen is tops in punting with a 48.04 net average that also leads the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision.

Who’s next to lead Bulldogs?

No sooner than Dykes is gone, speculation begins on successor

Go West young man.
And that’s where Sonny Dykes is heading after being chosen Wednesday as the new head coach at the University of California.
Wasn’t it just the other day when he came on board to rejuvenate a Bulldogs’ program that had dipped to a 4-8 record in 2009 only three years after recently disposed University of Tennessee Head Coach Derek Dooley had taken the team to a bowl game (Independence).

Cedar Creek tips off Killgore tourney

Cedar Creek High’s boys and girls got the annual Neill Killgore Memorial basketball tournament off on a successful note on Wednesday.
The Lady Cougars of Head Coach Katie Eagles were a 28-21 winner over Lincoln Parish foe Choudrant High and the Kyle Kavanaugh-guided Cougars took a 65-27 triumph over Quitman.

Statement from Reneau on bowl omission

Dear Friends and Supporters of Louisiana Tech,
I can say without hesitation that the past few days have been among the lowest and most disappointing of my 26 years as president of Louisiana Tech University. Our football team’s exclusion from a post-season bowl game was something that I could never have imagined given the success we enjoyed on the field and the way in which our players and coaches represented Louisiana Tech. Above all else, I am truly saddened for the opportunity our players, especially the 32 seniors, lost to showcase their talents and passion for being Bulldogs, one final time in front of a national audience.

Annual Choudrant festival set for Saturday

Local musical performers, games, kids’ activities and a chili cook-off contest are among the festivities at this weekend’s Christmas in the Village.
This will be the eighth year for the Choudrant Restoration and Beautification Society to host the event, which will take place from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Choudrant Park.
