Agritourism included in census

Agritourism in our state was first recognized with the official 2007 Census of Agriculture when farmers, ranchers and other agricultural landowners were asked to report revenues on their acreage. Although many Louisiana landowners have been engaged in agritourism for years, it was the first official record.

Schools had eventful 2012

The Lincoln Parish School Board had an eventful and historic year in 2012. Around this time last year, I took a look at what unfinished business the school district began with as 2012 dawned. This year, we’ll take a look back, and see how things went, and consider how 2013 might change the face of education even more.

Parish teams in state polls

Lincoln Parish made a quick imprint on the first weekly Louisiana Sports Writers Association state high school basketball poll announced on Monday.
There are five teams from the parish who are included in either the Top 10 or honorable mention sections of their classifications.
Dubach High’s girls, who made a deep march into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association playoffs during the 2011-12 season, have the highest rating of any parish representative.

GSU teams fall

HOUSTON, Texas — Grambling State University’s women fell 91-64 and the men’s squad lost 95-50 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference doubleheader against Texas Southern University here Monday night.
Steven Dandridge and Terry Rose had 14 points each to pace the Tigers (0-15, 0-6) and Victoria Ricks had 15 points and 12 rebounds as the leader for the Lady Tigers (2-15, 1-5).
Both GSU teams are at home Saturday for SWAC action against Jackson State University.

Gibbs has short stay as DC for Bulldogs

It’s back to the drawing board for a new defensive coordinator on the Louisiana Tech University staff.
After recently being hired to take over those duties for Bulldogs’ new Head Coach Skip Holtz Jr., David Gibbs is returning to the National Football League.
The 45-year-old native of Mount Airy. N.C. has been chosen to be the new defensive coordinator of the Houston Texans and has accepted that position, according to sources close to the NFL franchise.

Tech’s McNeail selected for league player award

Louisiana Tech guard Kenyon McNeail was announced today as the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performances in leading the Bulldogs to two road victories last week.
The Conway, Ark. native came off the bench to score six points with four rebounds in an 84-67 road win at Texas State, but it was his record-setting performance against UTSA that garnered the most praise.
With the Bulldogs down 8-0 to the Roadrunners early in the game, McNeail came off the bench and made four consecutive three-pointers to give LA Tech their first lead.

Tech hockey team sets fundraiser

The Louisiana Tech University hockey team is having a fundraiser at Raising Cane’s on Wednesday from 4-9 p.m.
Anyone who goes to the restaurant and dines during that time and says that they are a fan of the hockey program will have a portion of the proceeds going to the team.
Upcoming tournaments for the Tech squad include Jan 26-27, in Denton, Texas; Feb 9-10, in Denton, Texas; and Feb, 16-17, in Houston, Texas.

James E. “Buddy” Albritton

Funeral services for Mr. James E. “Buddy” Albritton, 61, of Farmerville will be 10:00am Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Farrar Funeral Home with Bro. Larry White officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Hill/Taylor Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

Buddy loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends at his camp on Corney Creek.

Buddy is preceded in death by his father, E. J. Albritton and grandparents, Jim & Rita Carmack and Enoch & Fay Albritton.
