Hammons, Skipper to unite in matrimony

George and Danita Hammons, of Choudrant, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kristin Marie Hammons, to Devin Michael Skipper, of Choudrant.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Henry and Betty Taylor, of West Monroe, and Eddie Ray and Bertie Hammons, of Choudrant. She is a 2009 graduate of Choudrant High School and is currently attending Louisiana Tech University.

Quarles, Nicholson announce engagement

Stacey Quarles, of Ruston, and Lisa and Mark Gaston, of Choudrant, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kristin Quarles, to Logan Nicholson, of Ruston.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Chris and Wayne McKey, of Choudrant, and Freddie and Carlette Browder, of Chatham. She is a 2007 graduate of Choudrant High School and attends Louisiana Tech University majoring in kinesiology/ health promotions. Kristin is currently employed with Family First Medicine.

Blachier, Upshaw to exchange vows next month

Todd and Marilyn Blachier, of Wausau, Wis., are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Hannah Leigh Blachier, of Ruston, to Thomas Wade Upshaw, of Simsboro.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Doug and Joanne Maulden, of Ruston, Carol Blachier, of Mandeville, and the late Charles Blachier. She is a 2009 graduate of Ruston High School and is currently employed with Higginbotham Chiropractic.

Defreese, Windham prepare for fall nuptials

Amy Defreese, of Choudrant, and Walter Windham II, of Monroe, are pleased to announce their engagement and forthcoming wedding.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Steve and Kay Defreese, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Pearl Defreese, of Ruston, the late Travis Defreese, Mary White, of Nashville, Tenn., and the late Kenneth White. Amy is a 2010 graduate of Choudrant High School and a 2011 graduate of Louisiana Technical College. She is currently employed as a nurse at St. Joseph Nursing Home.

Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hutto, of Farmerville, and Mr. Dewayne Ginn, of Ruston, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Alese Victoria Ginn, of Farmerville, to Jared Scott Jennings.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Jones and Ms. Virginia Jones, all of Farmerville, Mrs. Lillian Ginn, of Ruston, and the late S.E. ‘Red” Ginn, of Ruston. She is a 2009 graduate of Cedar Creek and is currently attending Louisiana Tech University.

GSU band gears up for presidential inauguration

Grambling State University’s World Famed Tiger Marching Band and students, faculty and staff are busy preparing for the 57th U.S. presidential inauguration as “goodwill ambassadors.”
“We are ambassadors for the state of Louisiana, Grambling State University, the town of Grambling and all the other HBCUs,” said Larry Pannell, who is leading the band for a third presidential inauguration parade since he became band director. “It feels good the second time around.”

Out and about after hospital stay

Hope you missed me. I missed all of you. I’m back on a roll now though.
Can you believe after a month of hospitals (Ruston and Dallas), I came home and promptly got the stomach virus? The whole family did — one at a time. Awful!
