Domond departs from Grambling State

Women’s hoops head coach to join Vivian Stringer at Rutgers

GRAMBLING — After only two years at the helm of the Lady Tigers, Grambling State women’s basketball coach Nadine Domond has resigned to join her former college coach Vivian Stringer at Rutgers.
HBCU Sports reports Domond submitted her resignation letter on June 17.
Domond posted an open letter on Instagram Friday saying she was sad to leave but felt joining Stringer’s staff was the right move at this time.

Find a fawn? Best to leave it alone

This is about the time when I’ll receive a call from a concerned citizen about finding an abandoned baby deer that the mother has obviously deserted or else the mother has met with an untimely fate.
Seeing no other deer around, the caller will report doing something that on the surface seems to be a noble deed. The fawn was picked up — they’re easy to handle when newborn — placed in a protective pen and the caller wants to know what they should do next. What should they feed the little fellow; how can they keep it as a pet; do fawns actually make good pets.

Wade, Pye wed in Ruston

Brittany Lauren Wade and Jonathan Aaron Pye were joined in holy matrimony on May 26, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church in Ruston.

The Rev. Bill Reid officiated.

Attendants were Brittany Smith, of Monroe, and Nick Bracey, of Ruston.

The bride is the daughter of Rhonda Wade, of Monroe, and David L. Wade, of Farmerville.
She is a graduate of Louisiana Delta Community College and is employed by Moreman, Moore and Company in Monroe.

Couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary

Ron and Beth Riley, of Ruston, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends at the Historic Firehouse in Ruston hosted by their children and grandchildren. The couple was married in Columbus, Mississippi June 11, 1966.

The have three children, Memrie Lolley, and husband Shannon; Paul Riley, and wife Jennifer; and Jill Myers, and husband Bob; all of Ruston. The couple have nine grandchildren, Morgan, Brooke and Ty Lolley;Leyton, Carson and Ainsley Riley; and Kate, James and Will Myers.

Stage to reveal remodeled Ruston store July 30

Department store, Stage, will debut a freshly remodeled and expanded store beginning July 28.
Stage located at 201 N. Service Road East, will host a Big Reveal Celebration at 9 a.m. July 30.
The store makeover features an updated design with wider aisles, brighter lighting and restyled fitting rooms.
During the celebration weekend, July 28-31, Stage will offer customers deals and merchandise giveaways.
The first customers in line on July 30, will receive a free gift — while supplies last.

Have you ever been captivated by the beauty of a mountain? There are few things in nature that evoke such visceral reaction in my heart than when I witness the grandeur of a towering, majestic mountain. Even Katharine Lee Bates, the poet who penned “America the Beautiful,” wrote of “purple mountain’s majesty” after visiting Pike’s Peak in Colorado. She further described her experience: “But when I saw the view, I felt great joy. All the wonder of America seemed displayed there, with the sea-like expanse.”
