Don’t blame City Hall if your favorite food category, preferred entertainment venue or must-have shopping choice isn’t on their list.
This time, it’s not government’s fault. For 18 full 24-hour days, everybody in Ruston, Lincoln Parish and all across the social media world had the opportunity to tell city officials exactly what kind of food they want and from where, precisely how they wish to spend their leisure time — legally, that is, and what type of clothing and other retail items they want to be able to buy in Ruston that are unavailable here now.

Reader writes about gun control

Terrorism. Murder. Assault weapons. Sexual orientation. Conservative belief system.
Self-hatred. Fear. Abuse. Mental illness. FBI background check.
These are all the current words being bandied about to describe the latest mass shooting in America.
They are also all correct.
This was a terror attack on a large demographic part of our nation, and it was cold-blooded murder.
A Muslim with a conservative background who was himself dealing with a sexual orientation crisis carried out the attack.
He obviously was also dealing with some type of mental illness.

Services for Tom McMillan, 76, of Ruston, will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston with the Rev. Gerald Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Clay (Jackson Parrish) under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the funeral home prior to the service.

Tech turns to NSU’s Burroughs

The ties that bind are strong.
And as he did a couple of months ago, Louisiana Tech athletics director Tommy McClelland is looking to his college alma mater — Northwestern State University —for a new baseball coach for the Diamond ’Dogs
After hiring Brooke Stoehr away from NSU in April to take over the Lady Techsters basketball program, McClelland has tabbed NSU’s Lane Burroughs as the new head coach of the Diamond ’Dogs.
McClelland is scheduled to make Burrough’s hire official at a noon press conference on Wednesday.

Goff tabbed as state hardball Coach of the Year

Four Louisiana Tech Bulldogs named to All-Louisiana baseball team

Four different Bulldogs have earned spots on the 2016 All-Louisiana Baseball team while former Louisiana Tech head coach Greg Goff was voted Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, it was announced on Sunday.
Casey Sutton picked up first team honors as the ace of the Bulldogs’ pitching staff, while Adam Atkins, Raphael Gladu and Chase Lunceford all earned spots on the second team.
The team was selected by a panel of statewide media members and the state’s baseball sports information directors.

Educators enter third year with Tech COE

More than 24 science, technology, engineering and mathematics educators from Ouachita Parish engaged in the third year of professional development summer institute funded through a three-year math and science partnership through the state’s department of education and the Louisiana Tech University’s College of Education.

These collaborations also includes highly-qualified and content knowledgeable STEM instructors from Tech’s College of Engineering and Science, said Lindsey Keith-Vincent, director of the SciTEC Center on Tech’s campus.
