Tech volleyball releases schedule

Head coach Adriano de Souza and Louisiana Tech has announced the 2016 volleyball schedule, which features a total of 29 matches, including four tournaments to open the campaign.
The upcoming fall season features 10 home matches for the Lady Techsters, seven of which come against Conference USA opponents. Overall, Tech will play 29 matches, including 13 in league action.

Bearcats Legends Banquet to be held

Thursday event honoring Dean, Williams to include a fundraising auction

A Ruston High School Bearcats Legends Banquet and Auction will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Davision Athletics Complex in the south end zone of Joe Aillet Stadium on the Louisiana Tech University campus.
The event will honor Bearcat Legends Fred Dean and Kyle Williams while the auction will be a fundraising project by the Bearcat Football Club booster club.

LPSO brings back Neighborhood Watch

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office is bringing back an old program with a new twist.

Neighborhood Watch makes its official comeback from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Lincoln Parish Public Safety Complex, located on Road Camp Road. The event is open to anyone interested in learning more about Neighborhood Watch or in starting a Neighborhood Watch program.

The revived program will include not only the traditional neighborhood organizations and signage, but also a social media presence, Sheriff Mike Stone said.

Panel suggests rezoning of lot

Ruston’s Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending to the Board of Aldermen that a lot on the corner of Wynnwood Avenue and North Trenton Street be rezoned from its current residential designation to a commercial node.

But Monday night’s vote in favor of developer Frank Cordaro’s request came over the objection of a group of nearby property owners.

Residents said the single-story office building Cordaro plans to construct on the lot would lead to increased traffic, decreased property values and drainage issues.

Dubach names fire board representative

Ralph Bruce was named Dubach’s fire department representative to the Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 Board of Commissioners.
Bruce takes over the position immediately after the town council approved his appointment at the council’s regularly scheduled meeting Monday.
Town Clerk Pamela Delp said Bruce will represent the municipality during Lincoln Parish Fire District meetings.
Councilman Robert Colvin said the appointment was good for the town.
“He’s a hard worker,” Colvin said. “I think he will do a terrific job.”

Man charged with robbery

A Ruston man remains in the Lincoln Parish Detention Center charged with armed robbery stemming from an alleged incident at an illegal dice game.
Germil Deantonious Rhone, 23, of 1406 Cardinal St., was arrested by parish sheriff’s deputies July 15, and charged with committing armed robbery with a gun, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The episode leading to the robbery charge occurred during the early morning hours of July 7, according to the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office.

NCLAC calls for photography entries

North Central Louisiana Arts Council has partnered with Driggers Outdoor to present an opportunity for NCLAC member artists.
One NCLAC member artist will be chosen from entries received to have an image of his/her artwork publicly displayed on a billboard for a six-month period of time.
The featured artist will change every six months per chosen media.
The dimensions for the artwork or photograph of the artwork must fit a 3:1 ratio being that the size of the billboard has a 30ft width and 10ft height.
The fall 2016 call is open to photography submissions.
