EDWINA COLVIN

Our precious mama, Edwina Wright Colvin, was born April 9, 1926, weighing two pounds. At a time when there were no incubators, intensive care units, or any other equipment to care for a preemie, and despite all odds and many dire predictions, she survived. Mama was fed with a medicine dropper. She left this life May 23, 2016, at the age of 90 and is now living in a mansion and eating from God’s bountiful table.

Bulldogs not looking past C-USA tourney

Baseball America’s latest NCAA Regional projections have Louisiana Tech as the No. 3 seed in the Baton Rouge Regional hosted by LSU.
But first the Bulldogs have a little business to take care of in the Conference USA Tournament, where Tech, the No. 5 seed, begins play at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, against fourth-seeded Rice.
Tech swept the No. 16 Owls in a three-game home series over the weekend.

Ahlrich, Diaz named to C-USA All-Academic Team

Louisiana Tech pitcher Graham Ahlrich and catcher Brent Diaz have been named to the Conference USA Baseball All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Twelve student-athletes from nine different C-USA schools make up the team, which is selected by the media relations contact at each of the 12 baseball schools. In order to be eligible for the recognition, student‐athletes must hold a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be of at least sophomore academic standing and be a starter or key reserve for their team.

Juneteenth Fest seeks vendors

The application deadline to become a vendor for the 44th annual Juneteenth Heritage Festival is 5 p.m. June 10.

Yanise Days, a member of the Grambling Juneteenth Heritage Festival Committee, said interested persons may pick up an application at Grambling City Hall, download one from the city of Grambling’s website at cityofgrambling.org or request one via email at gramblingjuneteenth@hotmail.com.

The vendor fee is $50 and accepted forms of payment of the fee are cash, check or a money order made payable to the Grambling Economic Development Corporation.

Parish looks to expand reading program

Six Lincoln Parish elementary schools librarians met Friday to review the inaugural year of the Children’s Choices program.
Amy Vessel, Louisiana Tech University associate professor of curriculum, instruction and leadership, said Children’s Choices selected more than 900 new titles for children to read in schools’ libraries for review.
More than 2,500 students at Hillcrest Elementary, Ruston Elementary, Glen View Elementary and Cypress Springs Elementary read many of the 900 new titles between August 2015 to January 2016, shared their reviews and voted on their favorites.
