RHS track gains Neville meet titles

in

The Ruston High School varsity girls and varsity boys teams recently swept the championships of the annual Neville High School Van Leigh Relays.
Ruston’s girls totaled 231 points to take top honors over West Monroe, which ended with 151 points.
The Bearcats had 174 points to the 121 points of runner-up West Monroe.
Both Ruston High teams also recently took championship honors at the annual “Kickoff Classic” hosted by North DeSoto High School.

Tech golfers in No. 3 slot at Argent event

CHOUDRANT — Freshman Victor Lange led Louisiana Tech University through the first day, shooing an even-par 133, as the Bulldogs stood in third place through two rounds at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant.
Lange shot even-par 72 in both the first and second rounds as the 11-team field played 36 holes in the first day of action. As a team, Tech shot a 7-over-par 583 and had a seven stroke improvement between the first and second rounds.

Cougars’ Cole signs with Hinds

Cedar Creek High School senior Jordan Cole (center) recently signed a national letter-of-intent to play golf for Hinds Community College in Mississippi. His mother Pamela (left) and father John were in attendance at the ceremony. Cole has played in 116 tournaments during the past five years and placed in the Top Five on 65 different occasions, including finishing as the champion 17 times. He has been on the Cedar Creek High varsity team since the seventh grade. During four of those years, the Cougars have captured a Louisiana High School Athletic Association state title.

Hoeppner, Bradley marry

Lindsey Anne Hoeppner and Wesley Louis Bradley, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., were married in a double-ring ceremony Feb. 14 in picturesque Colorado Springs.

Lindsey is the daughter of Kirk and Julie Hoeppner, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Wesley is the son of Buz and Martha Bradley, of Ruston. He is the grandson of the late S.W. and Doris Leachman, of Choudrant/Ruston.

Wesley and Lindsey Bradley will reside in Colorado Springs, where she is employed with AppleOne Employment Services and Wesley is a Staff Sergeant with the 4th Infantry Division of Ft. Carson, Colo.

Griggs, Zachary to exchange vows

Mrs. Beverly Sanders and the late Mr. Kenny Sanders, of Saint Joseph, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Riva Griggs, to Todd Zachary, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Zachary, of Bossier City.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randell Griggs, of Saint Joseph. Todd is the grandson of Mrs. June Ballinger and the late Mr. Russell Ballinger and Mrs. Kathleen Zachary and the late Mr. P.G. Zachary, of Bossier City.

Elizabeth Peyton

Elizabeth Peyton, 91, died Friday, March 8, 2013 in Hartwell, GA. Her husband, The Rev. Robert L. Peyton, preceded her in death in 2011. They were married for 68 years and lived in retirement in Arcadia, LA for 28 years before they moved to Hartwell in 2011.

Margaret Geer Sledge of Arcadia, better known as “Mimi” or “Miss Margaret” to family and friends, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 10. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at First Baptist Church, Arcadia, with Rev. Jeff Hoffman officiating. Interment will be at the Arcadia Cemetery at 9:30 a.m.

The Fashion moves to new location

A passion for the expansion of downtown Ruston was one of the reasons that Kelly Hogan, owner of The Fashion, decided to pack up and move down the street.
The business has been open for 60 years, the last nine under Hogan’s ownership, but it has a new location between Monjuni’s and the Ruston Daily Leader’s office.
“We moved because of the building,” Hogan said. “We were seizing an opportunity. … We thought it would be a fun time to change.”
