NCLAC discusses concerts, vocal lessons

Today’s Art Talk has performing arts news for you.
Check out the details about the Russ-Town Band concert on Saturday, and upcoming free vocal lessons with the Piney Hills Harmony.

It’s that time once again to hear this Peach Festival favorite.
On Saturday at 2 p.m., Lawrence Gibbs and the Russ-Town Band will fill the Dixie Center for the Arts with beautiful Americana and Patriotic melodies.

Meet Luna. She is a full-blooded Blue Tick Hound that is up-to-date on shots and spayed. She is a sweet girl that is leash trained, potty trained and loves other pets too. Luna wants a home. Peach Fest 2016 officially begins

Today begins the 66th annual Louisiana Peach Festival and if you venture downtown you will see residents rushing about making final preparations for this weekend’s events.
While a lot of the Peach Fest activities have continued the tradition of entertaining and attracting residents, there will be some new exhibits and activities as well.
For example, dinosaurs will roam the Earth again beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday on Georgia Street.
According to the event’s page, “We have brought out two dinos from the most experienced fleet of dinosaur performers in the United States.”

Finding that glimmer of hope

With all of the darkness that has spread across our news stations and radios, even the front page of this paper, I’ve struggled to find a little bit of light.
Last Wednesday afternoon, I found that glimmer of hope during the Lincoln Parish Library Control Board meeting.
I know, it’s weird, right. Stay with me, I promise it gets better.
LPL Director Vivian McCain stated that 856 children — not including teens or adults — have signed up to participate in the library’s summer reading program.

Burroughs takes over Diamond ’Dogs

Former Northwestern State coach Lane Burroughs officially took over Louisiana Tech’s baseball program Wednesday at a press conference Wednesday at the Davision Athletics Complex, saying he won’t make major changes to a team that last month reached the NCAA Regionals for the first time in 29 years.

The 2016 Diamond ’Dogs were considered a group of overachievers, something that Burroughs called himself during the press conference.

Peach Fest Rodeo begins Friday

The 27th annual Louisiana Peach Festival Rodeo sponsored by Brennan Dodge will be held starting at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Ruston Expo Center on Louisiana Highway 33 North. Gates will open at 6 p.m. both nights. This year’s rodeo will include a calf scramble and barrell racing for local children. Rodeo Clown Al Bryan will be on hand as well as trick rider Stormy Givens.
