Police, parents look at Internet use

Mostly (teenagers) are interested in social relationships. If you look at what they are doing they are text messaging, instant messaging and visiting social network Web sites. Kids tend to be very social, and they use technology to aid that.”
Unfortunately, some of this socialization is unhealthy, so parents need to take an active role in overseeing children’s computer usage, said Wheat, a father of two who also serves as the director of information services at the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home.

Bicknell compiled a 43-52 record during his stay as head coach, his 2006 edition posting a 3-10 mark and going 1-7 mark against Western Athletic Conference opponents.
In his initial season of 1999, Tech had an 8-3 record and then captured a WAC title and appeared in the Humanitarium Bowl two years later, ending up with a 7-5 record.
Tech ended its season this past weekend with a 50-23 loss to New Mexico State in Las Cruces.

Area legislators support special session

“I was against it because no one had input and a 10-day, quickie session was a rush to judgement on the Property and Casualty issue,” Kostelka said. “I still feel that way about the insurance, but now that I’ve gotten the call list, I see there are tax credits she wants to address.”
As for insurance, Kostelka said he still thinks 10 days is too short a period to answer all the questions.
“I question the logic of trying to rush this through,” Kostelka said. “We need to look at relieving the debt on Citizens Property and Casualty,” Kostelka said. “We need to work on the long-term.”

Every bit of giving counts

The Salvation Army was able to serve 813 families with disaster assistance during the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. More than 1,400 people in and around the Ruston area received assistance with utilities, rent, food, clothing and medical assistance.
This year, we hope to do more.
Every cent that is donated to the Salvation Army goes directly back to the community, and this holiday season, they are out in full swing at Wal-Mart and Super 1 Foods.

An addiction worth having

I would like to set the record straight about coffee. As a doctor in New Orleans told me between sips of his espresso, “It’s the best addiction you can have.”
Is it? While, as mentioned before, there are negative aspects, I would like to defend the coffee bean and say that its benefits far outweigh any negative attributions that may have been associated with the caffeinated beverage over the years.

Bick’: upbeat despite a tough day

On Saturday afternoon, out in Las Cruces, N.M., he was head football coach at Louisiana Tech University.
By that night, the Bulldogs were on the losing end of a 50-23 finale against New Mexico State University.
And by late Sunday night, the wheels began moving to eventually lead to his dismissal as the leader of the Bulldogs’ program after an eight-season stay.
