Clean city title boosts city’s image

When Margaret Simpson, Ruston’s clean city chair and secretary of the local Sunset Garden Club learned of the judges’ decision to award Ruston the title over Alexandria, Houma and Hammond, she could barely contain her excitment.
“We are ecstatic,” Simpson said. “We want to thank everyone who helped, and we’re very glad Ruston came through again.”
Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth said the award was a wonderful honor for the community.

Time to honor moms of all types

Those of us who had such a mother owe them more than we could ever give them and one day a year seems so insignificant compared to the amount of time they gave. So, Mom, happy Mother’s Day. I love you.
The same could be said for those of us who are married. Granted, Susan always reminds me that she is not MY mother, but she is the mother of our son Justin, and she made those same sacrifices mentioned above for him. Although Justin is a typical young man — meaning he forgets a lot — he’s good about giving Susan a call on Mother’s Day to thank her for all she’s done for him.

Choudrant falls short

Striking early with three runs in the first inning, then adding on what turned out to be a victory-assuring four runs in the fifth, the ‘Dogs halted the Aggies 10-3 in the Class B Louisiana High School Athletic Association championship game.
It marked the first-ever state title for upstart and Cinderella-labeled Forest, which was making its first appearance in the tournament in 21 years.

Area youth call out

“All of the area churches in Ruston and near Ruston wanted to take a stand for our generation,” Witt said. “Too long the world has said what we should think and act. We want to share God’s love and not allow the media to tell us what to believe.”
