McCown confident of quick return

But ensuing examinations on the knee revealed that surgery would be necessary in order to repair the damage.
The Bucs are cautiously optimistic that McCown, who began his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns in 2004, could be available for at least a portion of the upcoming season.
“Right now, he won’t be with us for the early part of the season,” said head coach Jon Gruden. “But knowing Luke McCown like I do, he’ll be back sooner than most guys.”

Gearing up for some dodgeball

I suppose it isn’t that funny that two grown women will partake in a sport of the elementary school playground, but it is extremely laughable that I, the self-proclaimed biggest, no-talent clutz in the universe, will be out there striving for athletic excellence in a game meant to inflict pain.
What was I thinking?
My last encounter with athleticism, besides small bouts at Tech’s Maxie Lambright Intramural Sports Center, was in high school as a member of the soccer team.

Raring up for the next fest

Irma Thomas thrilled us with her New Orleans Blues repertoire, while many of us danced the night away at the annual Peach Festival Dinner Dance at Squire Creek Country Club.
Most would agree that securing Greta van Susteren for the Peach Festival Luncheon ranked as one of the annual event's all-time highlights. The FOX News Channel veteran kept those in attendance spellbound for more than an hour.

Democracy surfaces in state, parish

The Lincoln Parish School Board recently reviewed their insurance benefits and made changes that will eventually benefit all employees on the parish insurance program. And board members deserve credit for addressing the issue before it became a hot topic in this community.

Annual Peach Fest draws to a close

“It’s so far, so good. We won’t know until it’s over with, but so far it’s going good.”
Denny said there are several reasons why the festival is important to the community, one being the festival brings attention to Ruston as well as north Louisiana.
“It’s the signature event of this town,” Denny said. “It brings money to the economy by drawing in people from outside the community. It helps the hotels, and people spend money here. People reinvest into our community.”
