Kazakhstan team to visit Tech

Sheila Barham of the Louisiana Tech University College of Engineering and Science confirmed the arrival of the visitors in Dallas where they were met by members of the Tech team and spent time with industry and alumni in the Dallas area.
Today’s schedule on the Ruston campus will be highlighted by meetings and presentations by university heads as well as overviews of both universities.
Today’s formal presentations will be complemented by walking and driving tours of the local campus and observations of classrooms and lectures.

Bulldogs: tough test at Nevada

“We’re taking each game one at a time and treating each one as being very important,” said senior guard Trey McDowell.
“We’re playing well as a team right now and we just want to continue the confidence we’ve shown the last several games. Hopefully, it can
give us some momentum the rest of the season.”

Businesses help schools find success

In Lincoln Parish, approximately 40 businesses have committed to participating in the Adopt-A-School partnerships to provide monetary needs or extra refreshments for school honors, and other businesses and individuals donate equipment, supplies and time.
Since 2001, no nominations are on record from Lincoln Parish for the Distinguished Partners in Education awards. Fortunately, this trend will likely change this year as the school board staff is planning to nominate two businesses from the community.

Computer checked for mice

Jenny’s workload was minimal, so every now and then she would take a nap on the floor, only to be awoken by an alarmed supervisor asking if she was all right. Work was a breeze for the fun-loving graduate student.
One afternoon in 1999, however, Jenny’s occupational bliss took a sharp turn as her visions of flying insects were interrupted by an unexpected request.
Flashing a winning plastic smile, Jenny’s supervisor told her to go downstairs to the computer lab to find anything she could on the
Internet pertaining to her university, which shall remain nameless.

Bush defends Iraq plan to nation

Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, said he supported Bush’s plan to increase the number of troops in Iraq — if it’s not too late.
“I’ve felt all along we didn’t have the forces over there we needed to get the job done,” Alexander said shortly after Bush ended his speech. “We’ve tied our soldiers’ hands and kept them from doing their job.”
As for Bush’s healthcare proposal, Alexander said he was glad the subject was broached.
“We need healthcare reform, but I’m not sure I understand how it’s (Bush’s plan) supposed to work,” Alexander said.
