‘Gravy’ was everybody’s friend

Simply because he was a friend to all.
The “friend” tag could have easily been placed right alongside his official title of “head baseball coach” during his 23 years of service to the Bulldogs’ program.
Or right by that interim athletic director’s name plate he had when the school’s department was going through various transitional stages.
Or by the interim head football coaching role he had during the turbulant season of 1973 and the university had to find a fill-in for the departed Larry Beightol.

Even Start deserves state funding

This week, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu and state Rep. Rick Gallot, D-Grambling, toured the Even Start facility and saw firsthand the progress being made there. The small campus in Lincoln Parish consists only of three full-time employees and two buildings, but the program is changing lives in Lincoln Parish, and the legislators noticed.
Both men pledged to be advocates for Even Start, and both said that if more legislators would take the time to visit with the program directors they wouldn’t hesitate to dedicate the necessary funding.

Tech homecoming radiates

I’ve always enjoyed Homecoming since I was in high school. The abundant opportunities for interaction, leadership, school spirit and fun all break up the monotony of the day and just seem to make classes a bit more bearable.

Ex-Tech coach kills wife, self

Police said no one else was injured.
Glenda Patterson had checked into the Arbor, an assisted living facility, located at 4518 U.S. 80, about two weeks ago with an advanced case of Alzheimer’s disease, Harris said.
Sheriff’s investigators are continuing to gather information about the situation, he said.
“Gravy” Patterson was the head baseball coach at Louisiana Tech for 23 years. At the time his career ended in 1990, he was the winningest coach in Louisiana collegiate baseball.
