Bulldogs’ break will end soon

Nearly two weeks later, this weekend against Fresno State.
The California-based Bulldogs, who took a 12-15 overall record into this week’s action, will supply the opposition for Tech (17-11) over a three-day period at J.C. Love Field.
Single games are set for Friday (6 p.m.), Saturday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
For Tech, it’s an extra important early league series and not just because it’s against the defending league champions.

Reneau has made impact

• Assisting in acquiring funding for the new biomedical engineering building;
• Securing resources and funding for the Institute for Micromanufacturing;
• Pushing Tech to take more of an interdisciplinary approach in the classrooms; and
• Moving Tech to a selective admissions institution.
These are just a few of the accomplishments from Reneau’s 20 years, but even before then, he was a firm supporter of the university. He developed the biomedical engineering department, which has since flourished under his leadership.

Community reaps benefits

That particular blog is written by Ruston High School teacher and area resident Jill Murphy, who has spent the better half of the past year raising money so a well can be built for a village in Africa. One well costs $18,000, and that’s not exactly pocket change. Murphy knew she could give $10, $20 or a greater amount, but she wanted to contribute even more. Therefore, she grabbed her yellow backpack, some bottles of water and set to work.

Blanco’s budget would benefit area

Downs, a member of the House Education Committee, said the proposal appears “very encouraging.” Since Lincoln Parish is applying for a grant to implement a LA 4 Pre-k Program in Simsboro, Downs said this proposal is good news for the local school system.
“Lincoln Parish is going to benefit from those changes,” Downs said.
“We don’t know exactly how it will all shake out, but it will bode well for Lincoln Parish.”
