Rike rockets to Rockies

And now, Brian Rike is headed for the professional ranks.
On Thursday, the junior outfielder for the Bulldogs was chosen by the Colorado Rockies in the second round of the annual major league draft.
According to Tech records, that’s the earliest any player in the program’s history has been chosen, the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year being the 72nd overall player taken.

Military museum a treasure

On occasion, for those fortunate enough to be there at the right time, there is nothing that equals a tour given by the founder and director Ernie Stevens.
The stories which really send chills up and down the spine are about those things Stevens considers treasures which others have considered trash and thrown away. Everything from weapons to uniforms to medals have been lost to history and to the education of others.

Fisher Report heaps praise

The vast majority of the report was filled with praise for the university and its leadership. Reneau was named an effective president and the unquestionable architect of much of the university’s success.
With a salary which is only 78 percent of that of his peers, there is a large element of loyalty involved in Reneau’s staying at the local university. Undoubtedly, he could find a much higher salary elsewhere but continues to choose Tech over the competition.

Union eyeing new district

• The majority of voters (63 percent) in Union Parish were unaware of the proposal to create a new judicial district for their parish; and
• Once questions were provided to educate the voters regarding the proposed new judicial district, the majority (62 percent) were in support of the proposal.
