‘Go Grants’ bridge aid gap

Expanding higher education is a real need in the state after the hurricanes, Savoie said.
“This plan gets at the heart of Louisiana’s dilemma: It not only will help rebuild college enrollment, but it will also help ensure that many of those who have long been deprived of a chance for college now have the opportunity to earn a postsecondary credential, Savoie said.”

RHS, 1-5A have full league slate

In fact, save for a sprinkling of other non-league opponents, the 1-5A slates for the Bearcats and others is almost district play across the board.
The lone non-league foe on the ’07 schedule for RHS is Monroe-based Neville, a perennial Quad-A power who will supply a season opening assignment at James Stadium on Aug. 31.
Then it’s eight straight weekends of district competition for the ‘Cats, who start that stretch at home the following Friday night (Sept. 7) against Natchitoches Cenral.

University presidents build future

Judson has taken a school with decreasing enrollment numbers and substandard housing and returned it to the prominence it once enjoyed among the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Increased admission standards and new apartment-style housing have students from across the nation once again clamoring to attend GSU. One need only drive through campus to catch a glimpse of improvements Judson has been instrumental in implementing.

It doesn’t take a beauty queen

Saturday was one more time in which people reassured me that pageants are not all about beauty. They are scholarship and service organizations.
Young women chosen to represent their regions in pageants must give up normal life for some time. But, let us face facts. They do still wear the amazing clothes and have glamorous lives.
While passion for a platform or a cause may be their reason behind serving, the rest of the package has to be some small part of the decision.

Local officials oppose financial disclosure

Some local elected officials are unsure of the ramifications or benefits the bill could have, while others express strong opposition to measures that would mandate disclosure of sources and ranges of income.
Lincoln Parish Police Juror Charles Owens said he is opposed to detailed financial disclosure at both the state and local levels.
