Tech pitchers: a super summer

The latest to send rave reviews back to “Tree”, “Sim” and the Western Athletic Conference program: Clint Helms.
The 6-3 and 215-pound righthander who will be going into his sophomore stint during the 2007-2008 school year recently recorded a no-hitter and then a two-hitter for the Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League.
Helms had a commanding performance in the two-hitter, a 4-2 decision over the Duncanville Deputies in which he struck out eight batters and issued only two walks.
Of the first 27 batters he faced, he had first-pitch strikes to all
but three of them.

Cheers for water works

At the time of the 2006 audit, one clerk was in charge of preparing the billing lists, accepting payments and entering payments into the computer system. The state said at least three people should have been addressing those tasks. Not to accuse anyone of wrongdoing — having more people as backstops is a plus.

Tech helps vanquish violence

The local Domestic Abuse Resistance Team — whose services can be reached by calling 251-2255 — is one option. Through caring staff and volunteers, domestic violence victims can find shelter and group support as well as individual counseling. Additionally, law enforcement officers, medical staff and social service workers make an impact on these survivors.
Acknowledging this fact, Louisiana Tech will be the first university in the state to offer a graduate certificate in domestic violence.

Tech Happening sets record

Jarrell, a 1949 Tech graduate, said alumni support, whether financial or through encouragement, is vital to a university’s success.
“It’s so important for Tech (alumni) to realize they can be part of the success of Louisiana Tech in the academic and athletic sectors,” he said. “If you don’t get a lot of people involved, it’s going to be hard to be successful.”
Reneau told those gathered that Tech had seen an outstanding year.
