Making the most of the least

Everyone says it, but has any of us ever really thought about what it means?
“It” is the casserole someone might bring for a grieving family who is focused on more trying things than what to eat for dinner or the free-of-charge afternoon of babysitting a relative might provide a desperately exhausted mom and dad.

Lottery scam hits parish

The catch is that before the recipients collect the money, they must pay “taxes and charges.” Victims are told to wire money to pay the taxes in order to collect their prize. Such “agent” asks the victim to provide identifying information as well as bank account numbers so the alleged “lottery winnings” can be deposited in the victim’s account.

Faculty also now have a resource in the BARC at their disposal for referrals. Instructors can now intervene, to a degree, and help students having academic or social difficulties through the BARC.

Don't fight the losing battles

We tried spanking, but that didn’t faze her so we stopped. Taking away toys and privileges doesn’t work either. The only good news is she doesn’t come out of her room. Help!
Answer: You’re fighting a losing battle. This particular battle, in fact, is one of three battles you cannot win, no matter what. You cannot make a child eat, use the toilet, or sleep. You can put a child to bed, and you can enforce staying in the room, if not the bed, but you cannot make the child go to sleep.

Don’t run when you see me

I can literally see them draw into themselves, tense up, as if an overwhelming wave of fear has suddenly taken control of their bodies and paralyzed them.
Then they plead.
“You’re not going to, like, write about me, are you?”
Finally they muster a nervous laugh and the air becomes so thick with silence, you could cut it, bag it and sell it at market.

Tech hopes to ground Hawaii

Brennan, whose 99 career touchdown passes is one shy of the all-time NCAA record, threw for 416 yards and six scores while hooking up on all but six of his 40 throws in that laughter against the Coloradians.
Tech, meanwhile, is banking and hoping on a xeroxed performance that its defensive unit exhibited in a 28-7 season opening win against the University of Central Arkansas.
