Choudrant outgrows town hall

In order to move forward with the second phase of the expansion plan, the aldermen voted to allow Sanderson to sign a resolution awarding the village funds from Louisiana Capital Outlay to build a second fire station. Construction is tentatively set to begin in late summer or early fall. While the location is not yet set, Sanderson said it should be built near the Squire Creek water tower. Once construction on fire station No. 2 is complete, the police department will make its second move into offices there.

Jones tabbed for WAC award

In the national publication’s annual “College Preview” edition that reached newsstands earlier this week, Jones is predicted to be the WAC Player of the Year winner.
The 6-5 and 205-pounder is coming off of an injury-hampered sophomore campaign in which he batted .297 with 49 hits in 165 at bats, including five home runs and 36 runs batted in.
On the mound, Jones had a 2-2 record, 6.16 earned run average and 29 strikeouts in 30.2 innings.

Universities move to keep students safe

That is an important detail that will have an impact during an emergency situation. All students should register their important phone numbers as quickly as possible to ensure they will be informed in case of emergency.
This is a critical step taken by the university system toward keeping everyone on campus safe. The new method of notification will be used in addition to the e-mail service already in place. But the cell phone method will meet the need for urgency better than e-mail.

Nearly time to spring forward

If you’re anything like me, you’re thinking how sudden it seems for this time to be upon us again. Well, it’s here, and I’m certainly glad about it.
Those days of not wanting to leave the house, since that would require going out into the cold, are winding down, and like many of our four-legged mammal counterparts, it’s time to come out of hibernation.

Dubach schools rely on renewal

The utilities include electricity, water and gas at Hico Elementary and Dubach High School. The approximately $95,000 per year generated by the tax pays for six to seven months of utility bills for the two schools, she said.
The property tax renewal also pays for maintenance of school buses used in the district. Key said five buses serve Hico Elementary and Dubach High School.
“We want the buses to be maintained because of the distance our kids travel on them,” she said.
