Area families need help after closure

On Friday, Pilgrim’s Pride announced it will idle its chicken processing plants in Farmerville, El Dorado, Ark., and Douglas, Ga. Since then, local employees and contract poultry farmers have been worrying about what the future holds and most are expecting a solid plan from the state.
Although Jindal could not offer a complete rescue plan, it was evident that residents appreciate his genuine concern and efforts to make the situation less painful.

Raise voices for Farmerville

That’s the name of a song title I’m suggesting, in all seriousness, to singer/songwriter John Mellencamp.
You see, last year Mellencamp wrote a song called “Jena” about the troubles surrounding the Jena 6 ordeal.
Well Mr. Mellencamp, north Louisiana really needs you now. You see, thousands of our residents are hurting, for all the wrong reasons.

Tech runners tops again

After the first day, Tech was in last place with 13 points. That was nearly 50 points in back of first-place Idaho.
But thanks to a super performance by the 1,600-meter relay team on the final event of the meet, the Techsters sprinted past the Vandals and to the championship podium.
Combining for that title in the relay event were senior El Charrita Reynolds, junior Kamelia
Story and sophomores Shante Benion and Monique Wright with a time of 3:43.07.
Tech finished with 120 points, and Idaho was runner-up with 114 points.
