Funeral services for Rev. Jerry L. Adkins, age 79, of Ruston will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Ruston. Dr. Andrew Johnson, Dr. Chris Craig, and Dr. Rick Byargeon will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Rev. Adkins was born in Red River Parish, LA on April 20, 1931 and died in Ruston, LA on November 28, 2010. He graduated from Mississippi College and received his master’s at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX . Rev.

Show to feature Sweet Adelines, international champs Acoustix

Ringing in the holiday season just got easier.
That’s because there’ll be plenty of ringing chords Saturday, when the Piney Hills Harmony chorus of Sweet Adelines and an international champion men’s barbershop quartet from Dallas present “Christmas on the Bayou.”
Curtain time is 7 p.m. at White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ, 3201 N. 7th St., in West Monroe. The two-hour show will include numerous songs by the Ruston-based Piney Hills Harmony, 45 minutes of harmony from the international champs Acoustix, plus segments by three chorus quartets and an ensemble.

DART Angels bring wishes

“Christmas is a hectic time at DART but a wonderful time,” said Megan Warren. “I’m looking forward to spending my first Christmas as DART’s child advocate. It’s an opportunity to make Christmas happy for little kids who otherwise wouldn’t have Christmas at all.”

Spots open on Ruston reserve police force

The Ruston Police Department Reserves are looking for a few good men or women.
The Reserves will accept applications from qualified individuals until February.
In order to be a member of the Reserves, residents must be at least 25 years old and in good physical health. Applicants must also have a high school diploma or GED and have a minimum of 8 hours per month to devote to the work.
Reserves Lt. Walter Moss, reserve coordinator, said the physical fitness requirement should not be intimidating to potential applicants.

Program focuses on faith communities

Recently, the Advisory Board members, presenters and staff of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Ruston Sharing Hope Program assembled for a joint meeting at the Northern Louisiana Medical Center.
The Advisory Board consists of 16 faith leaders in the local community, among them are area pastors, deacons, deaconesses and laymen, representing 13 area churches from Ruston, Grambling, Clay, Simsboro and Arcadia.
The five presenters are mainly Advisory Board members.
