Save gas amid jumping prices

Gas prices in Louisiana have seen a rise in the past week. In fact, prices are 41.2 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 16.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, according to LouisianaGasPrices.com.

Sammers celebrate Christmas in Arcadia

Strains of Christmas music could be heard as hosts Carolyn and Hubert Estes and Mary Beth and Don McCullen welcomed the Caney Lake Good Sammers to the Christmas party at the Homer Woodard First National Bank Reception Hall in Arcadia. Cider, coffee and cookies were offered as the guests arrived. Tables were very festive with ceramic Santas, green placemats and ribbon/cord napkin holders.

Elaine Allen

Graveside services for Elaine Allen, 88, of Choudrant will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Longstraw Cemetery in Choudrant, LA. Rev. Leroy Skipper will officiate the service under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Mrs. Allen was born in Choudrant on May 8, 1922 and died in Ruston on January 1, 2011 following a lengthy illness.  She was a member of Longstraw Baptist Church and was a retired dietician with the Lincoln Parish School Board.  Mrs. Allen is preceded in death by her husband Charles Allen.
