November election participation down 45% from October

A significantly smaller number of Lincoln Parish residents turned out for the General Election on Nov. 19 than in the Oct. 22 Primary Election.
Lincoln Parish Registrar of Voters Dianna Stone said this was not surprising.
“I knew there would be a lower turnout than in the Oct. 22 election, because so many of the races were determined during that first election,” Stone said.
For the General Election, 19.14 percent — or 5,047 — of the parish’s 26,372 registered voters cast their votes.

The chaos seen on Thursday evening and Friday night seems to have been good for local businesses’ coffers.
Locals joined thousands of Americans in the annual Black Friday day after Thanksgiving shopping phenomenon that draws shoppers across the nation out for some of the best deals of the year. Locals flocked to stores hours before they opened on Black Friday, and formed lines in those already open to ensure they had a good chance at the items they wanted — often at a serious discount.

For some, it’s one more cup of coffee, another cigarette or another game of poker. For others, it’s one more bite of a sugary treat or another dose of an illicit substance.

For the first time in a decade, Tech has a league championship trophy to be added to the display lobby of the Charles Wyly Athletic Center.

No excuse for hunting mishaps

It always sends chills down my spine when I read in the newspaper or hear on radio or television that another hunter has been injured or killed as the result of a hunting accident. With hunting seasons in full swing, I know I’ll be hearing about more such tragedies and that’s troubling.
I personally know several hunters and have heard of others who have been injured or lost their lives while hunting.
Some of these incidents have been the result of a hunter being mistaken for game or a mishandled gun firing accidentally.
