Deputies to crack down on drunk driving

in

As area residents celebrate the holiday season enjoying traditions, food, family and fun, they are reminded that the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office will be out in force this holiday season from Friday to Jan. 2 to arrest anyone caught driving drunk behind the wheel.
“The message is simple, ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.’ Drinking alcohol and driving do not mix. If you plan to consume alcohol, you should also plan not to get behind the wheel of a vehicle or ride a motorcycle,” said Lincoln Parish Sheriff Mike Stone.

The community will soon be treated to a concert by the Russ-Town Band.
Lawrence Gibbs, conductor of the 50-member band and an associate professor of music at Louisiana Tech University, said the group plays concert-band music.
“We’ve been around since 1994,” Gibbs said. “The Dixie Center for the Arts has kind of been our home for many years. We play overtures, popular tunes and music from the orchestral literature.”
The band typically plays two concerts each year at the Dixie — one during the Louisiana Peach Festival and another around Christmas, which is right around the corner.

Christmas trees, butterflies discussed

in
Maki, Ken.jpg

Christmas is the next big day for decorations. I have been reading about a hot issue among the natural green groups.
Some of the greenies and arborists say, “Don’t cut trees down to use for decorations! Trees are too valuable in the ecosystem to just destroy for short duration for ornamental usage.”
They say. “Use artificial trees and branches for decorating and save the trees.”
I saw an actual figure of how many Christmas trees are sold each year, and it is a very big number … in the millions. That is not counting those just cut anywhere and used.

Protect pets and plants

Jack Frost has been nipping relentlessly at Lincoln Parish residents’ noses, and it’s the time of year when he’ll probably stick around.
