The Grambling State University College of Business is currently sponsoring a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Room 262 of Jacob T. Stewart Hall on the GSU campus. IRS-certified community volunteers are providing free federal and state tax preparation. Program hours are from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays, 2-7 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturdays. All returns will be electronically filed.

Odie L. “Roy” Fitzgerald, age 90, of Ruston died Saturday, February 5, 2010.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2010 at the Chapel of Temple Baptist Church in Ruston with Rev. Dale Oden and Dr. Rick Byargeon officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation will take place Monday, February 7, 2010, in the Chapel of Owens Memorial Funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Roy Fitzgerald was born July 19, 1920, in the Pisgah community of Bernice, LA to Odie L.

Kenneth W. Henry left this world to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday morning, February 5th, as a result of a brief illness. Visitation will be Monday, February 7th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, Louisiana. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 8th at Temple Baptist Church with interment at Pines Memorial Cemetery in Ruston. Services for Mr. Henry will be led by Dr. Rick Byargeon and Rev. Dale Oden. Eulogy will be delivered by Scott Thompson with special music presented by Mary Hollis Graham and Margie Hearn.

Wading through water bill woes

Grambling moves to correct 19 citings within department

GRAMBLING — Grambling Mayor Ed Jones announced several moves directed to eliminate billing problems in the town’s water department during Thursday’s monthly Town Council meeting at City Hall.
Jones said an audit of Grambling’s 2009 budget found 19 citings of problems in the town’s water department. That led Jones to revamp the department. He introduced during Thursday’s meeting two new water department employees, Marjorie Prudhomme and Ida Ary.
“We have to get a grip on some of the problems in our Public Works department,” Jones said.

TASC battles truancy

Shealy: Parental involvement is equalizer

The Lincoln Parish Truancy Assessment Service Center believes key factors have been identified in helping win the fight against truancy.
These findings were revealed during the monthly meeting of the Lincoln Parish School Board on Tuesday night.
According to the TASC website, research has shown that truancy is one of the first indicators that serves as a link to future juvenile crime.
