Lady Cougars win, 15-0

Ruston’s Cedar Creek High softball team pounded out 13 hits and rolled to a 15-0 District 2-1A victory over Monroe St. Frederick High on Wednesday.
The Lady Cougars were led by Mary Gleason (two doubles, two RBIs, two runs), Lauren Yepson (two singles, run, four RBIs), Lilla Jimmerson (two singles, two runs, RBI), Cassidy Maddox (two RBIs, three runs, single), Lauren Kirkland (double, two runs) and Wendi Henderson (double, run). Caley Pyles was the winning pitcher.

Tech guest speaker focuses on redefining freedom

Louisiana Tech hosted special speaker Mary Farmer-Kaiser, who spoke on Monday to a crowd at Wyly Tower Auditorium, as a Women’s History Month event.
Farmer-Kaiser is a professor in the Department of History at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette and is the author of the book, “Frustrating Freedom: Freedwomen, Unpardonable Sins, and the Gendered Awakening of Federal Emancipation, 1865-1868.”
The lecture was designed to show that life after Emancipation — or the freeing of slaves in the United States — was very different for African-American women as opposed to men.
