Wright named No. 1 Biblical speller

Willie Wright of Grambling recently won first place in the Biblical Spelling Bee sponsored by the Southwest Regional Youth Conference held in Mobile, Ala. Willie was eligible to compete after winning first place at the local competition sponsored by the Liberty Hill Baptist Association, as well as the district competition, sponsored by the Louisiana Baptist State Convention in Shreveport.

Pet Day to benefit NCLAC

Follette Pottery, located at 1991 Pea Ridge Road in Dubach, will have a second Pet Day on Saturday.
Kent Follette will be on the front porch with his wheel and a lot of clay to make personalized bowls for pets.
Each bowl will be made just for a particular pet, and they will be personalized with the pet’s name.
Prices are small for $20, medium for $25 and large for $30.

BB gun shooter sought

On Saturday morning, the Ruston Police Department responded to Jim Taylor Ford vehicle dealership in reference to a report of 33 damaged vehicles.
Lt. Tim Parker, public information officer with RPD, said that officers responded to the business on Saturday morning. It appeared that someone shooting a BB gun had damaged 33 vehicles.
Parker said several vehicles had to have their windshields replaced and others had various degrees of lesser damage.

Local businesses give back

Games, school supply giveaways to mark event

Parents who may be struggling to foot the bill for the numerous school supplies required as school gears back up will have a helping hand.
For the first time, three local businesses will host the “Save Our Block Fun Day” at 3 p.m. Saturday at 300-304 S. Farmerville St. This is the area in front of the three sponsoring businesses, which are 1st A+ Alliance Personal Care, LLC., Y2Kuts Barber and Beauty and Morris’son T-Shirts.
LaShunta Pringle, program director at 1st A+ Alliance Personal Care, LLC., said the event will feature jumpers, a dunking booth, food, door prizes and bags of free school supplies.
The event is open to the public, and Pringle said anyone who needs school supplies is welcome to attend.

La. Tech gathering Tuesday

Football season comes like clock-work every fall for fans of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
But for real-Bulldog enthusiasts the season begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Happening XXX.
Louisiana Tech alumni, fans and friends will once again venture to the Monroe Civic Center to celebrate the upcoming season, which kicks off Sept. 3 against Southern Mississippi, and the achievements of the university.
