Alfred, Stephen to exchange vows

Dr. and Mrs. Alfred, of Chennai, India, are proud to announce the upcoming wedding of their daughter Anita Alfred, of Ruston, to John Philip Stephens, of Shreveport.

Anita is the granddaughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Doss and the late Mr. and Mrs. Moses.
Anita graduated from B.I.T.S., Pilani in 2003 and from Louisiana Tech University in 2005 with a masters degree in chemical engineering.

She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and is currently a member of AIChE. Anita is currently employed by Hunt, Guillot and Associates, LLC.

Jensen, Serio to wed

Jessica L. Jensen, of Joplin, Mo., and Christopher L. Serio, of Ruston, are proud to announce their upcoming wedding.

Jessica is the daughter of Tom and Marsha Jensen, of Joplin, Mo. She is the granddaughter of the late Robert Carlson and Maxine Carlson Davies, of Joplin, Mo., and the late Woody and Mildred Jensen. She is a 2005 graduate of Joplin High School and a 2009 graduate of the University of Arkansas.

Jessica is currently employed at the University of Arkansas in undergraduate admissions.

Tech fights cancer

Bulldogs ask for help on and off the field

Louisiana Tech will open its Western Athletic Conference season on Saturday when the Bulldogs host preseason league favorite Hawaii on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Joe Aillet Stadium.
There are numerous promotions and events set around this weekend’s home football game, including the Tech Athletics Hall of Fame induction, the Bulldogs Tackling Breast Cancer campaign, the Red-Out game promotion as well as additional home sporting events on campus.

Abuse awareness

DART vigil to remember those lost

With close to 30 people lost to domestic violence in the past 15 years, the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team has taken a proactive stance to inform area residents.
Cathy Ayo, DART’s executive director, said DART serves five parishes, including Lincoln Parish, and awareness will be brought to each one.
“We will be setting up silhouettes Friday or Saturday to remember all those lost to domestic violence, which includes men, women and children,” Ayo said. “They will then be on display for a week before we move them to another parish.”

Cyclist struck, injured

in

A teenage cyclist is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.
Ruston Fire Department Public Education Officer Eric Brazzel said the incident took place at 4:14 p.m. on U.S. Highway 167 North between Vienna and Dubach.
“RFD responded at that time with a medic unit and rescue to find the patient with severe injuries,” Brazzel said. “Pafford Air was notified to transport the patient to LSU Medical Center.”
