Guice, Hrncir interviewed for Tech president position

Research was a hot topic during public interviews of both semi-finalists in the search for the next president of Louisiana Tech University, with both candidates expressing clear support for the advancement of research at the school.
“I think the role of the university is not only to pass on existing knowledge but to create new knowledge,” said Duane C. Hrncir, acting president of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and one of the semifinalists. “Research is key, I think, in order to continue to provide a quality education for the graduates.”

DRABO hosts festival, parade

With Christmas right around the corner, the Dubach Restoration and Beatification Organization is making sure the community has plenty to choose from when purchasing gifts by hosting its annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Festival and Parade on Saturday.
“This is done strictly for the community,” said Maggie Brown, president of DRABO. “There is no admission for either the parade or into the warehouse.”

Burglary reported in Hico

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking tips regarding a burglary in Hico that was discovered on Tuesday afternoon.
LPSO spokesman Stephen Williams said numerous firearms and some collector knives were stolen in the burglary on Wise Road that involved forced entry through a door.
“We’re actively working this case,” he said.

Louisiana Tech presents the ‘Fights Before Christmas’

The Louisiana Tech Stone Theatre announces its student-written show, “Fights Before Christmas,” directed by the director of the School of Performing Arts and professor of Movement and Design, Mark D. Guinn.
Performances are scheduled to run at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4-8 in Stone Theatre, located in the Howard Center for the Performing Arts, on the corner of Adams Boulevard and West Arizona Avenue.

Blue Star Mothers send Christmas packages to military servicemen and women

The Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana Chapter No. 5 mailed 47 boxes to the deployed United States Military servicemen and women for Christmas.

The Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana Chapter No. 5 is a local chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., an organization for mothers who have children serving or who have served.

Dade receives scholarship

Raven Dade is the 2012 recipient of the Education Scholarship Award given from Queen Vashti Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star affiliated with U.M.W. King George Grand Lodge A.M. & A.F. State of Louisiana. This award was given on Oct. 19 at the 88th Grand Session in Pineville. The education committee consisted of Sister Angelite Caldwell, chairperson, Sis. Lillie Young and Sister Audrey Gardenhigh.
