I crappie fish sort of like I duck hunt. I go when someone invites me, but as far as keeping up with the latest methods and techniques to make me a better perch jerker or duck hunter, admittedly I fall short.

Fishers of Men series begins sixth year

The Fishers of Men North Central Louisiana division recently marked the beginning of its sixth season and the start of the five-tournament series in which anglers vie for a bid to the organization’s annual regional and national championships.
The inaugural event for the season launched from Kel’s Cove on Lake Claiborne in Homer.
Though battered by rough weather conditions, by the time the weigh-in scales had closed, the field of anglers had brought forth 72 fish totaling 154 pounds.

Pittman, Brister win tourney

On a recent February morning, it was cold and dreary weather conditions at Ludwig Brothers Marine on Lake D’Arbonne.
A strong cold front had passed through the area earlier and brought with it rain and dropping temperatures.
With the thermometer reading 33 degrees and a 15-mile per hour wind out of the north producing a wind chill factor of 27 degrees, it wasn’t a very good morning to be having a bass tournament.

State hoops’ finals is big deal for city

Yes, it’s a big deal about this prestigious sporting event to be staged in Ruston next week.
The 2012 edition of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association basketball finals will be held at the Thomas Assembly Center on the campus of Louisiana Tech University starting on Thursday and extending through Saturday.
Needless to say, it will have a major impact on the city, the university and Lincoln Parish.
Above all, it will be THE place to be for anyone who loves high school hoops.
Finals will be held in all six classifications for both boys and girls.

Dubach reaches finals

MONROE — Cinderella is alive and decked out in a Dubach High School uniform.
The Hornets are crashing the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s annual boys’ basketball championship game.
For this Cinderella, it’s only fitting that a “ball” is part of the spelling for basketball.
It’s definitely a grand “ball” awaiting Dubach High next week when they face Pelican (a 59-58 semifinal winner over Phoenix) for the state title.

Simsboro in title game

HAMMOND — Just when it appeared that Simsboro High might miss out a chance to play for a state championship in its own backyard, the Tigers came up big at crunch time Saturday night.
Trailing 70-64 with a minute remaining, Simsboro (30-6) got five critical points from first-year guard Jamarco Brown and held on for a 72-70 Class B Louisiana High School Athletic Association semifinal round playoff victory over Baton Rouge Madison Prep (34-7) at the University Center on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University.

Lady Techsters lose to Nevada, 76-72

Louisiana Tech University lost for the fifth consecutive year to Nevada in Reno on Saturday night, as the Wolf Pack (7-22, 3-11) took a 76-72 Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball victory.
The loss was the second in two road games during the past three days for the Lady Techsters (15-14, 8-6), who lost on Thursday night at Fresno State and will enter the upcoming WAC postseason tournament as the No. 3 seed.
First-year guard Whitney Frazier led Tech with 17 points and also grabbed seven rebounds, registered two assists and had two steals.
