Funeral service for Marjorie Bailiff Huff, age 79, of Bernice, LA will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 27, 2012 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating the service will be Rev. Johnny Adkins. Interment will follow at Harmony Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mrs. Huff was born August 28, 1932 and passed away July 25, 2012.
She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Huff: son: Patrick B. Huff and daughter: Hollie Huff.

Mrs. Huff was a member of the Bernice United Methodist Church.

Out of ashes: A new Pike house

Investigator identifies cause of blaze that destroyed facility

The first steps are being taken to transform a pile of debris at 110 Western St. into a new home for Louisiana Tech University’s Pi Kappa Alpha.
The 6,500 square foot fraternity house, which reportedly served as living quarters for six students, burned down in May.
Danny Milam, president for the fraternity’s housing corporation, said the demolition process began Wednesday, and reconstruction is expected to begin in late fall.

Rock group to play festival

A familiar sound will fill downtown Farmerville when the Mike McKenzie Band takes the stage at the Watermelon Festival’s street dance this Friday night in the courthouse square.
“We are really excited about getting to play at the Watermelon Festival again this year,” lead vocalist and guitarist Mike McKenzie said.
The three-piece band is comprised of bassist and vocalist Robert Poe, drummer Nicky Hilburn, and, of course, McKenzie.

RHS cheerleaders to host youth camp

Proceeds from week-long event to go toward school cheer supplies

Area girls can sharpen their cheer skills, as the Ruston High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleading squads plan to host a mini cheer camp for girls ages 4 through fifth grade, starting on Monday at the RHS boys’ gymnasium.
Registration will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Monday, as the camp begins at 9:00 a.m. and lasts until noon each day. To wrap up the week’s events, participants will perform for friends and family at 9:30 a.m. on Aug 2.
